Why "Original Sound" Matters
Our Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) model relies on the clarity and quality of the audio it receives. Zoom’s default audio settings are optimized for general voice communication. They often apply noise suppression, compression, and other enhancements that can inadvertently degrade audio quality for speech recognition purposes. By enabling "Original Sound", you ensure that the audio transmitted is as close to the original input as possible, which allows our ASR model to process and recognize speech more accurately.
User Instructions
To ensure optimal performance of our Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) model during Zoom meetings, it is important to configure your audio settings correctly. Here are the steps to enable the "Original Sound" audio profile in Zoom:
1. Open Zoom and Sign In
- Launch the Zoom application on your computer.
- Sign in with your Zoom account credentials.

- Adjust your microphone position and volume if necessary.
Tips for Optimal Audio Quality
Microphone Placement
Ensure your microphone is positioned close to your mouth but not directly in front of it to avoid plosive sounds (popping). A distance of 6-12 inches is generally optimal.Quiet Environment
Try to minimize background noise as much as possible. Close windows, and doors, and avoid noisy appliances.Microphone Quality
Use a high-quality microphone. External USB microphones generally provide better audio quality than built-in laptop microphones.Test and Adjust
Before important meetings, test your audio settings. Use Zoom’s built-in audio testing tools to ensure your voice is clear and at the right volume.
Enabling "Original Sound" in Zoom can greatly enhance the performance of our ASR model by providing clearer and more accurate audio input. By following the steps outlined above, you can ensure that your speech is recognized more accurately, leading to a better overall experience with our platform.
